Oakdene is a new build property in Knutsford. The owners, Mr and Mrs Mercer, took the decision to build a home to suit their family needs after the birth of their third child. Originally they were not planning to embark on such a project, but when a bungalow with land became available in the area in which they already lived, they seized the opportunity.
The new property has a traditional aesthetic appeal, which is very much in keeping with the surrounding area. The owners had a preference for wooden windows and they visited and reviewed a number of timber window and door manufacturers, before choosing George Barnsdale. After visiting our factory in Donington and seeing for themselves the attention to detail, quality and workmanship that goes into every window and door made, the couple had the reassurance that we would work closely with them to ensure a flawless fit, finish and specification for exceptional performance.
After reviewing the architects’ designs and discussing the couple’s build requirements, we were able to recommend windows and doors from our Traditional Range. This range is the perfect combination of period design and modern performance, making it perfect for traditionally styled self-build projects.
The entrance door design really does highlight the couple’s commitment to incorporating original features. Beautifully crafted, incorporating insulated solid panels and side fanlights, the door provides both grandeur and warmth. Obscure glazing was specified for the fanlights to ensure privacy. The obscure glazing provides a beautiful contrast against the brickwork.
At the rear of the property, four sets of French doors open out onto the patio. This provides a seamless transition into the garden, allowing plenty of opportunity for the children to safely play outside. The opening of the home in such a way also floods the property with natural light.
For period authenticity, 21mm astragal bars were incorporated into the wooden casement windows, French doorsets and side door designs. All external astragal bars are manufactured from Accoya®, the most durable timber species, for exceptional performance. To enhance the classic look of the windows and doors, the couple chose furniture from our Period Collection.
