Project description

Artisan, Fitzrovia is a new development of 13 luxury residential apartments and ground floor retail units by the property developer Dukelease. Located on the corner of Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road, the Artisan development involved the construction of a striking new corner building, the build of five new facades and the meticulous restoration of an existing historic town house façade. Three out of the five new facades are replicas of Georgian facades, providing a striking contrast to the new corner building, and in keeping with the heritage of the local area.

George Barnsdale were awarded the manufacture and installation of the timber windows and doors for the replica Georgian facades and the restoration element of the project by the main contractor, Ernest Park Limited. The installation was carried out by our own certified commercial installation team (Safecontractor and Achilles Building Confidence certification).

In keeping with Georgian period design, traditional box sliding sash windows based on the original designs using cords and weights, were manufactured. An arched top was incorporated into a number of these window designs to exactly replicate the original façade. For authenticity a number of the box sash windows incorporate astragal bars.

We also manufactured a number of traditional inward opening French doorsets. Again for authenticity the doorsets incorporate an arch top design. Whilst the timber windows and doors are very traditional in appearance to preserve and enhance the remaining original fabric, the satin chrome window and door furniture fitted complements the stylish, contemporary design of the interior. Also, due to the Central London location of the development all windows and doors incorporate acoustic laminated glass, helping to reduce external noise pollution for the residents.

The Artisan development won the accolades of Best Conversion and Grand Prix Winner at the 2016 London Evening Standard New Home Award.
